Case study

How a Calgary basement company rebuilt its marketing, May to October 2026. The rebuild, in real numbers.

ReImagine Builders is our own renovation company and the first business we ran a Corner Score Audit on. This is what we found, what we changed and what still needs work. Published October 2026.

Where we started in May

ReImagine Builders has built basements in Calgary since 2010, more than 1,000 of them. By spring 2026 the work was good and so were the reviews, with 4.9 stars on Google. The marketing was not.

Our website was an old WordPress site. Its home page had no form. The “Get a quote” buttons sent people to a separate page, and there was no phone link in the header. There was no price tool, no chat and no way to book a visit. The reviews block on the home page didn’t show reviews at all. It showed spam text that someone had slipped into the site.

An outside site check on May 15 gave the old site a health score of 67 out of 100. It found 724 pages with no main heading and 541 pages that nothing else on the site linked to. A search check the week before found that only the home page ranked on Google. We had no pages for the towns we work in and no blog.

Social media had gone quiet. Our last Instagram post went up on December 9, 2025. Our YouTube channel hadn’t had a new video in well over a year.

The old home page, as the Internet Archive saved it on December 30, 2025. It is the closest saved copy to May, because the archive has none from January to July 2026.

What we built

On May 14 we took Google Ads in house and rebuilt the account into 7 campaigns covering Calgary, Airdrie, Chestermere and Okotoks.

We started a new website on May 29 and launched it on June 9. It puts a quote form on the first screen. It added published prices, an instant price tool and a chat assistant that answers basement questions. It also added a gallery of more than 50 project photos and a page for each town we serve.

The day after launch we started posting to our Google Business Profile every week. We also wrote down, step by step, how we ask finished clients for a review.

In July we filled the new blog with more than 140 basement articles. In August we fixed our lead tracking, which had been counting too few enquiries. We also added the Meta pixel, a small piece of code that tells Facebook and Instagram which ads lead to an enquiry.

In October we added online booking, so a homeowner can book a site visit straight from the website.

The numbers, then and now

Our Corner Score Audit grades a business out of 100 across 7 areas, using only public information. ReImagine Builders scores 52 today. You can read the full audit.

We can’t score May in full. The Internet Archive saved no copy of the site in those months, and nobody saved May’s Google Maps results, speed tests or AI answers. So we rebuilt only the parts we could, and scored today with the same checks and the same weights.

On those parts, ReImagine Builders went from about 33 in May to about 66 now. That covers 3 of the 7 areas and 55 of the 100 points. It is a partial, like-for-like comparison. It is not the full Corner Score, and 33 is not our May score.

May figures are estimates built from the saved copy of the old home page and the dated list of public Google reviews. Almost all of the gain is lead capture. The new site gives people a way to reach us from the first screen, and the old one didn’t.

What is still weak

Reviews went down

We had 161 Google reviews at the end of May and we have 171 now, still at 4.9 stars. But we got 6 new reviews in the 90 days before May 31 and only 5 in the 90 days before October 6. Over the same two stretches, the review leader in our market went from 12 new reviews to 18.

Our money searches slipped

The searches that bring in jobs, like “basement development calgary”, are still our weak spot. Our audit, built only on public data, gives search rankings 7 out of 100 and Google Maps 14 out of 100. That is where the next round of work goes.

The phone site is slow

Mobile speed scores 39 out of 100.

The new home page proves less

The old home page linked to our written warranty. The new one talks about a guaranteed timeline and price but doesn’t link the written terms.

Social stayed quiet

We posted nothing to Instagram in the 13 weeks before May 31 or in the 13 weeks before October 6. Our Facebook page still opens on a house listing video from December 2024, and our LinkedIn page still has a blank cover.

What comes next

Social comes first. The plan is 13 weeks of posts across Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, LinkedIn and Google, built from photos and video we already have. One scheduling tool posts them, and we approve a month at a time. The plan adds a Google post and a blog post every week. It also fixes our Houzz, HomeStars and LinkedIn profiles, which still give the wrong start year. The plan is written, and the first posts go out once we sign off.

In January we want to run the full audit again. This time we will save every screen and result on the day, so the next comparison covers all 7 areas, not 3.

We will publish that one here too, good or bad.
